Algeria on another planet Off-roading in Algeria is total magic: endless dunes, surreal rock formations, and ancient petroglyphs in the midst of emptiness. You feel small, free, and infinitely alive. This is adventure in its purest form. In Brief When: October 25 - November 10, 2025 Duration: 17 days - 16 nights Level: Intermediate Participants: Minimum 12 Fuel: For 1,000 km of range Total km: 5,000, of which 1,500 are off-road ALGERIA 4X4 of motor: Tassili - Tadrart - AdmerA 4x4 off-road tour in Algeria, through the Tassili region, exploring the Tadrart and Admer, where we’ll enjoy dunes, legendary tracks, ancient rock paintings and carvings, and stunning natural arches. This journey continues my partners great Sahara expeditions, a route tried and tested over the years. With our 4x4s, we’ll dive into humanity’s distant past—close enough to touch—and create memories that will stay with us forever. We’ll head south via asphalt roads, following a scenic route seemingly painted across the sands of the Grand Erg Orientale, until we reach Djanet—known as the “pearl of the Tassili.” From there, we explore the Tadrart area, one of the most beautiful parts of our beloved Sahara, and a natural continuation of Libya’s Acacus mountains. We’ll visit spectacular sites from Ali Demna to Tin Merzouga, along a tested but unusual track we’ve followed on dozens of previous expeditions—often finding only our own past tracks! Of course, we won’t miss the breathtaking dunes of the Erg Admer! On the return, we’ll avoid much of the tarmac and instead follow an incredible track from Illizi to Tifernine and Gara Khanfoussa, through the towering dunes of a region closed to tourism for many years. All this is led and managed by a tour operator that has made desert travel its legacy, with a fully equipped 4x4 Unimog offering support and vehicle recovery in case of breakdowns. Participants can join with their own 4x4 vehicle, travel as passengers in our support vehicles (carrying only a backpack and sleeping bag), or fly to Djanet and start the tour from there. The organisation guarantees full assistance at all times, with the highest safety standards. |
PROGRAM DAY 1: Departure from Genoa – Ferry departs at 15:00. DAY 2: Arrival in Tunis expected at 17:00. After disembarking and completing customs formalities, we’ll head south for the first leg. We will rest on the ferry and drive this first stretch in the evening, calmly and carefully. This way we make progress toward the Algerian border. Simple dinner en route and bivouac just before the border. DAY 3: Early departure to Taleb Arbi border, meet the guide and handle the usual 3–4 hours of formalities. We aim to reach El Oued by late afternoon. Today we’ll take time to fill the auxiliary tanks and reserve jerrycans. We’ll be carrying more weight but will save time in the coming days. For the overnight stay, we’ll use a sandy clearing provided by a hotel. Those who wish can check availability for a room. DAY 4 – 5 – 6: Travel days heading toward Djanet. Camps along the route, with the last night camping in the Tassili sands. DAY 7 – 8 – 9 – 10: The outer edges of the legendary Ténéré lead us south. In the distance, we’ll start to see the imposing cliffs of Tassili, with its magical sandy valleys. A cave, ancient paintings, a red-sand amphitheater, a 150-meter-high dune, a maze between cliffs… every turn will leave us speechless. Camps in magical spots along the way. DAY 11 – 12: Return to Djanet to refuel and stock up on supplies, then head to the Erg Admer for an unforgettable dune adventure. Starry-night bivouacs. DAY 13 – 14 – 15: Back on asphalt as we head north toward the border. Arrival at the frontier expected in the evening of day 15. Hotel stay in Tozeur. DAY 16: Departure from Tozeur to the port of La Goulette (Tunis), arriving in the early afternoon. Ferry departs at 18:00. Overnight on board. DAY 17: Sailing day. Expected arrival in Genoa around 21:45. Departure and arrival times of the ferry are indicative and subject to change. Due to the nature of the itinerary, planned in “challenging” areas, major route changes may occur due to weather conditions, safety concerns, or permit issues. In such cases, the organisation will adapt the route as needed in agreement with local authorities, always prioritizing the safety of participants. PRICES:
