In short Dates: January 31, 2026 - February 14, 2026 January 31, 2026 - February 8, 2026 February 6, 2026 - February 14, 2026 Participants: Minimum 12 Duration: Full tour: 15 days / 14 nights Difficulty: Medium to high, depending on experience Total distance: approx. 1600 km Mauritania is no ordinary destination: it’s rugged, captivating, and authentic. A powerful call for those seeking more than just another route. This is the Africa of the Sahara, of legendary tracks and age-old caravan trails. The entire trip is supported by my Approved Partner, an experienced travel organization known for African adventure travel, guaranteeing safety, quality, and deep local knowledge. A skilled team will accompany you throughout the journey, allowing you to fully enjoy the adventure, backed by solid and competent support. You can take part with your own motorcycle (transported to/from Italy by the organization), or with a rental bike on site, carefully selected and prepared for sand tracks and desert terrain. In both cases, you’ll benefit from technical assistance and support along the way. What makes this journey even more unforgettable is the wild camping in the desert: each night, the bivouac will be set up in scenically stunning locations, chosen for their breathtaking sunsets, starry skies, and the deep silence only the Sahara can offer. Tents, a field kitchen, a shared spirit, and the vibe of an expedition make every night a unique moment — gathered around the fire under millions of stars. In this enduro raid, you won’t just observe the desert — you’ll live it, riding along some of the very tracks that made Dakar Rally history: iconic stretches, endless sand, ancient caravan routes, and forgotten places where time stands still. The route is designed for experienced off-road riders who are comfortable with sand. It’s not a race or an extreme challenge — it’s a true adventure requiring adaptability, enthusiasm, and a desire to go beyond the everyday. The journey is divided into two stages, each with its own character, landscapes, and challenges. Participants may choose one part or complete the full route for total immersion in the heart of the Mauritanian Sahara. |
Stage One – From Nouakchott to Chinguetti Our adventure begins in Nouakchott, Mauritania’s capital on the Atlantic coast. From here, we head inland and curve northwards to reach Atar, nestled between rock and sand. We then take little-used trails where navigation and intuition become part of the experience. We pass the haunting, abandoned Bou Naga mine, a ghostly reminder of a forgotten era. From there, we cross the majestic Amogjar Pass, a dramatic gorge that offers breathtaking views and thrilling tracks — one of Mauritania’s most scenic routes. We end this stage in Chinguetti, an ancient caravan town and UNESCO World Heritage site. Its desert libraries, stone buildings, and the sand creeping through its alleys take us to a world outside of time. Stage Two – From Chinguetti to Nouadhibou The second leg of the journey takes us even deeper into the Sahara. From Chinguetti, we ride to Ouadane, remote and ancient, once a key stop for caravans trading salt and gold. From here, we enter a region of rare natural wonder: the enormous and mysterious Richat Structure, known as the Eye of the Sahara — a vast, circular formation visible from space. We follow tracks through salt flats, wind-sculpted hills, and untouched desert. We pass remote villages like El Ghallaouya and El Beyyed, and continue on to Sebka Chem Cham, where the sand turns white and the atmosphere feels lunar. We reach Choum, an isolated rail hub in the middle of nowhere, and connect to the mythical railway trail that runs alongside the iron train — one of the longest freight trains in the world. Riding beside the tracks, we cross harsh, windy, sandy terrain: one of the most iconic stretches of the Dakar rally’s historic route, where rhythm is dictated by sand and legacy. Before descending back to the ocean, we visit the colossal Ben Amera monolith, one of the largest in the world — majestic and solitary in the desert. Our journey ends in Nouadhibou, with the Atlantic ahead and the Sahara behind. A true raid. Raw. Unforgettable. Two routes, one spirit: the spirit of freedom.
