Brief DATES: 24-01-2026 to 19-02-2026 Participants: Minimum 10 Autonomy: 1,000 km on asphalt Duration: 27 days – 26 nights Difficulty: Medium Total kilometers: Approx. 5,000 km in Morocco and 3,000 km in Mauritania MAURITANIA 4X4 / motorbikeThe land of many deserts! A country with an arid climate, where the sands of the dunes sharply contrast with the maritime rocks. A dream for all 4x4 enthusiasts, lovers of the Sahara, and of journeys where the power of nature always takes center stage. Between sea and sand, you will feel as though you are at the end of the world. An adventure trip in Mauritania by 4x4, right in the “heart” of the country with our own hearts, along the most remote and unspoiled routes, behind the wheel of our off-road vehicles. Mauritania is geographically part of the Western Sahara, and its arid climate prevents the population from expanding too much. Perhaps this is why Mauritanians are so attached to their rich and deep traditions. A country that will delight hikers and lovers of authenticity alike. The climate in August ranges from warm temperatures mitigated by the ocean’s humidity at the start, to dry, scorching heat in the deserts and highlands. Inside the country, there is little temperature difference between day and night, allowing for fantastic nights under an immense blanket of stars. From a technical point of view, it is an interesting trip where we will have the chance to test all our driving techniques. We will cross Mauritania through its various morphological landscapes: from the shoreline of the tide track — seemingly easy but treacherous — to vast plains, sometimes sandy and sometimes dotted with shrubs, from large sandy ergs to dunes sprinkled with acacias, from rocky and arid mountain passes to sections of fine “fech-fech” dust. Without a doubt, the best route you can take in Mauritania! Onderweg door Marokko naar Mauritanië

PROGRAM 24 January: Departure from Genoa with boarding on GNV. Arrival in Tangier on 26 January. After disembarkation and customs clearance, we head south for the first night on African soil. For those wishing to depart earlier or travel overland, there will be the possibility to meet directly in Tangier, or even further south. 27/28/29 January: Fast transfer along Moroccan roads and highways. We are eager for sand and head firmly south. Dinners and breakfasts along the route are not included. Arrival at the Mauritanian border, where, after crossing no man’s land, we will need patience for border formalities. First bivouac. 30/31 January: Approach to the capital passing through Banc d’Arguin, one of the most important natural parks in the world for migratory birds. It stretches along 200 km of coastline and includes numerous islands. By carefully timing the tides, we will experience the thrill of driving on a magical track running along the ocean waves, the famous “tide track.” Camps among dunes and on the beach. 01 February: Arrival in Nouakchott, completion of formalities and resupply, rest of the day free. One of the youngest capitals in the world, Nouakchott was built on a grassy and fertile plain at the time of independence in 1960. At its creation, the city was many days’ march from the desert; now it is fully within the Sahara. Sand piles up against walls and fences. Built for 200,000 inhabitants, Nouakchott now counts five times as many. The suburbs are little more than shanty towns of metal huts and tents. Today we will also meet those arriving by plane. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel. 02/03/04/05 February: We enter the desert heading to Atar, about 700 km, passing through the abandoned Bou Naga mine, a route rarely traveled even by locals, winding among enchanting and ever-changing landscapes, wells, and nomads on sandy plains that are fast and smooth at first, and then move to dunes, soft sandy oueds, rocky terrain, and spectacular mountain passes. Camps and the last night in Atar at a campsite. 06/07 February: From Atar to Chinguetti via the evocative Amogjar pass. A day dedicated to the “city pensively resting on its pink sands,” as Chinguetti has been described, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the seventh holy city of Islam. Camp. 08/09/10/11 February: From Chinguetti we move to Ouadane, the ancient caravan and intellectual capital, the city of the two oueds, once believed to be sources of wisdom and wealth. We then continue to Guelb er Richat, nicknamed the “Eye of Africa,” whose origin has never been definitively explained. We then head towards El Ghallaouya and El Beyyed, home to an evocative valley of incredible beauty, with dunes dotted with acacias. Then we continue through Sebka Chem Cham in the direction of Atar, where we close the 800 km loop. Camps. 12/13 February: From Atar to Choum, an important railway junction, via the spectacular N’tarazi Pass. Here runs the world’s longest train, 4 km in length, carrying iron ore from Zouerate to the port of Nouadhibou. We will detour earlier to reach the striking Ben Amera monolith, towering more than 400 meters high, always a reference point for nomads and travelers. We then head east and cover about 450 km towards Nouadhibou, along the railway track, arriving in the evening at the campsite. Transfer for those departing by plane from Nouakchott. Camps and camping. 14/15/16 February: Start of the journey northwards to reach Tangier for boarding. Dinners and breakfasts along the way are not included.
